We, Nopaxton.com, are a growing group of Lodi and Saline residents that are concerned about the impact that oil and gas drilling and associated operations may have on our land and environment. Those who live here appreciate the natural beauty, clean water and air, and relative peace and quiet, and want to keep it that way. Based on substantial freely and publicly available information, it is clear that exploitation of oil, gas, and other mineral resources under our land may result in a variety of unintended, unwelcome side-effects, and we do not intend to allow that to happen.

If you live in Lodi or Saline and have been approached by a company calling itself Paxton Resources, or are concerned about potential side-effects of oil and gas drilling on your or your neighbors properties and want to learn more, please contact us at: nopaxton at gmail dot com

Meeting in Manchester Wednesday Evening 7pm

We received this from a group in Scio Twp. that is also trying to keep the oils wells out and plan to attend. Hope to see you there.

We're talking this Wednesday in Manchester! Plus new Detroit Free Press coverage of our stance on oil and gas at the state level!

  • If you live in western Washtenaw County, join us this Wednesday., Feb. 11, at 7 pm in downtown Manchester at the Coffee Mill CafĂ© (115 East Main St.). Ian Moyer of COFBY will be talking about oil and gas exploration and development in Michigan and will have some specifics about Manchester and Sharon Townships. It's free and open to the public, but voluntary contributions are gratefully accepted! Hope to see you there!
  • As we've said from the start, things have to change on the state level in order for Scio and other townships to be able to protect their citizens from having oil wells in places we don't think they belong (like near homes and near rivers). So we've kept busy at the state level and we continue to get media interviews as the group in the know on this issue. Here's the link to the latest coverage in the Detroit Free Press: http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2015/02/04/oil-gas-township-zoning-shelby-scio-drilling-fracking/22898273/
Here's the same Free Press reporter when he was interviewed on Michigan Radio's Stateside: http://michiganradio.org/post/families-frustrated-oil-and-gas-drilling-their-neighborhood

  • From time to time, our mission statement gets tweaked to reflect our evolving knowledge as an organization. You can read our mission statement at the bottom of this email.

We'll have more news coming your way soon!

  • We are a Michigan nonprofit corporation that began in May 2014 as a grassroots organization of citizens opposed to oil and gas exploration and development near homes and near a Huron River tributary in Scio Township, just outside Ann Arbor.
  • Our goals are (1) to defend the quality of life and the environment in Scio and other communities in Michigan by opposing oil and gas development in residential and rural-residential areas, near preserved areas, and near water resources; and (2) to work toward local zoning control for townships and toward changing the way the oil and gas industry functions in our state.
  • While we do not advocate for one specific alternative, we believe in sustainable energy policies that do not promote the expansion of the oil and gas industry and that give local communities the right to regulate oil and gas exploration and development in ways consistent with local residential, environmental, and conservation goals.
